Roses Torchiere
Designer Notes:
This piece is part of an ensemble that includes; dining table, chair, chandelier and Rose buffet.
Our shop is in Antigua, Guatemala a UNESCO declared World Patrimony town.
It is surrounded by coffee and rose plantations. So roses are a constant source of inspiration.
As can be seen in this piece, our careful study of the rose maturation has taught us to imitate this process perfectly.
The torchiere consists of nine roses; three fully open, others opening, buds and the leaves.
To proportion and balance our imitation of nature we made it bloom within a contained oval space.
We finished the base with strong roots, making the lamp a sculpture.
When lit the piece projects the shadows of its foliage.
We believe this piece represents what Guatemala produces in both nature and arts.
Construction Notes:
The roses are done petal by petal: first each future petal in a large metal sheet is die marked,
then the marked petals are cut with a metal shears,
then they are hand hammered until it is rounded and formed into a petal,
finally the border of each petal is individually folded to make it realistic.
The rose is formed welding each of the petals to their stem.
The lamp’s roots were hand forge using solid 5/8 inch iron rods
and welded to the stem and sanded so that they blend in a natural form.
